There isn't really much first hand information on how the Fly came into beeing and all the thoughts that went into it. In fact the only official interview with Ken I know of is this one: http://www.tonequest.com/articles/article23.htm

Wouldn't it be great if we could arrange a little (email) interview with Ken answering a series of questions gathered from us forumites?

What do you think of this idea? Anyone has contact to Ken? Is he even giving interviews? And - regardless whether this works out or not - what would you like to ask him?

Although I've never done it, if you have a meaningful question, I've heard that he will respond to a written letter. There was a good article about him in the New York Times awhile back. It will suffice to say he's moved on. It's fair to say he is proud of the Fly accomplishment and does from time to time do seminars and shows that have included some discussion on the Fly. He has been known to display a special Fly when he's showing his new guitars at a guitar show. His true passion is the new archtops he's building. Go to KenParkerArchtops.com As Simon points out you also might consider reaching out to Bob Martin (uburoibob) offline. I believe it is unreasonable to cling to a notion he would ever materialize as a presence here on the forum.

probably right. but, i would say if any type of person might, it would be the passionate type. afterall, we are all playing his offspring!

Well for one I don't know if that certain kind of cult of personality that's quite common on this board is very helpful. No, I don't know Ken but obviously being very individualistic, creative and hands on I somehow doubt he would feel comfortable with that shiny aura cast about him by others...

And I fear it would come down to one half asking him to bash Fly development since USMC and to retake the shop by force and the other half probably asking questions he's answered too many times already.

The interview at tonequest is interesting and fun.
Finding some halfway decent new questions wouldn't be very easy, I guess.

But if the board comes up with some... would love to see the results.

Greetings...
Nef

I think someone ought to write the definitive history of the Fly. Ken isn't the only one who was there, Marvin, Fishman and others could be interviewed. I'd buy a copy.

Alex, could you elaborate a little on who Marvin and Fishman are and what their respective roles were in the development of the Fly? Are there yet other people who made significant contributions to the Fly in one way or another?

you'd want it written in dactylic hexameter? I think that would just make it needlessly difficult

Well it was more the kind of epic like in "The History Of The D" as I watched "The Pick Of Destiny" again recently and somehow that sort of exaggerated awesome awesomeness came to my mind. If they ever make "The History Of The Fly - The Movie" please get Jack Black as narrator.

Greetings...

I met Ken once but that was before I got my Fly. He encouraged me to spring for it. I know his father and was just speaking with him last weekend. He says Ken is very happy making arc tops. I mentioned that a lot of original Parker owners are concerned about parts and service and he said he'd pass it on to Ken (for what ever it's worth).

I would like to write the book of before USM aquirement and after as I was there when it all happened.....guaranteed to be a good read I would get Page involved as well. I will tell you this, those saddles are modeled after a certain girl friends butt!! I have talked too Ken a few times and saw him recently and he is VERY happy making his beauty arch tops and really just wants too move on. As far as parts go I am working on somethings with regards to replacement parts and will let you all know when the time comes. Peace all, enjoy the holidays!!

a couple of years ago someone likened Ken's departure to a 'divorce'. It may have been a labour of love at the time of Fly creation, but apparently he has simply moved on. would you want people asking about how amazing your first wife was when you currently have a beautiful (arch-topped) wife that's the light of your eye?

having said that i like the idea of presenting him with a list of questions for hm to choose which, if any, he wants to respond to. But you can guess most of the q's will have ben asked, be about quality etc. Simonlock's approach of askin about the artisitc decisions could be interesting to an artist such as Ken
